May 2023 Altenew Inspiration Challenge

 Hello, crafty friends!

Today’s Paper Play post is all about my submission for the Altenew May 2023 Inspiration Challenge.  This month's inspiration challenge was focused on the photo below and using the colors purple, green, and orange.

Here's the design that I submitted for it:

I used the following products to create it:

  • Circle frame, flowers, and sentiments from the Altenew Floral Halos Stamp & Die Set
  • Leaf tile from the Altenew Delicate Tiles Stamp Set
  • Altewnew Green Opal and Jet Black Crisp Dye Inks
  • Altenew Artist Alcohol markers: Lavender Fields, Deep Iris, Frayed Leaf, Bamboo, and Orange Cream
  • Delicata Golden Glitz Pigment Ink
  • Sakura Gelly Roll White Gel Pen
  • Sakura Glaze Black Pen
  • Arteza Clear Sparkle Pen
  • Taylored Expressions Drip Drops

I started with a cream colored A2 sized panel of card stock and stamped the leaf tile in a diamond shaped background pattern (rather than a square) using the Green Opal ink.  The pattern used was three diamonds going down the left side, three diamonds going down the right side, and two diamonds in the center column.

I next stamped the three sets of flowers from Floral Halos onto cream card stock using the Jet Black ink.  I colored them with the alcohol markers - purple shades for the flowers, green shades for the leaves, and orange for the flower centers.  The white gel pen was used to add some additional detail to the flower petals, the black glaze pen to emphasize the lines inside of each leaf and petal, and then the clear sparkle pen to give the flowers and leaves more shimmer.  I used the corresponding dies to cut out the flowers.

A circular frame die from the Floral Halos set was used to cut two frames, and I inked both frames using the Golden Glitz pigment ink.  A sentiment from the Floral Halos set was stamped using Jet Black ink with the word "you" going into one inner circle from the frame and the words "are amazing" into the second.

I decided where to place the sentiment circles, adhered them with double sided tape, and then adhered the frame around them using double sided foam tape to give dimension.  With the frames in place, I decided where to place the flowers and adhered then with a combination of craft glue and  double sided tape.  Three drip drops were added using craft glue, and the panel was adhered to an A2 sized card base with double sided tape.

I'm really happy with how this turned out!  So fun to see how one image and suggested color palette can be interpreted and represented so differently.  I hope you agree.

Until next time . . . be well!
